How Is The Binary Opposition Shown In “Hobbs & Shaw”?
From this scene, we can see that both Hobbs & Shaw have different clothes. While Hobbs wears a T-shirt and pants, Shaw wears a suit. This shows the personality of both. Shaw is a true gentleman, with nice and strong gentleman personalities. Meanwhile, Hobbs is an aggressive person when dealing with villains. It also shows that Shaw tends to use skills and tricks while fighting, and Hobbs prefers to use power when fighting.
In this scene, you can observe that Hobbs and Shaw each take one side of the two tables to evade the gunshots, which can already imply the opposition because of how they dodge into two separate and opposing tables. Furthermore, in this scene, you can see Hobbs dive behind the table while Shaw rolls behind the table, which could indicate that the director wants the audience to see Hobbs as untactical, unplanned, and unafraid, whereas Shaw is tactical, well-trained, and plans before doing anything.
In this scene, where Hobbs counts down from three for both of them to jump down the rope, but then only Hobbs jumps and Shaw says, "No one tells me what to do," the directors are likely trying to imply that Hobbs is the kind of guy to trust random people who spent some time with him. Of course, Hobbs jumps down the rope like a maniac, but Shaw is cool and doesn't follow him because he has plans of his own.
