Is Title Displayed In The Opening Scene?

For found footage genre, specifically The Host & Unfriended, the title isn’t displayed in the beginning.

There are a few reasons why found footage movies don’t display movie title:

To provide the audience a more immersive experience. By not showing the movie's title at the start,

the spectator is lured into the plot and feels more connected to the characters. Because the audience feels

as though they are witnessing the events of the film unfold in real time, this can heighten the suspense and

terror in the picture.

    - To give the movie a more realistic and believable vibe. Movies with found footage frequently use

handheld cameras or other unprofessional recording equipment to capture the characters' point of view.

This enhances the sense of tension and terror in the films and gives them a more realistic and believable

feel.

What Images Are Prioritized In The Opening Scene?

Images in the opening scene of found footage movies usually differ, because it depends on the content of

the movie. However, found footage movies share the same common in their opening images:

    - Shaky camera-work: Found footage is captured with handheld cameras and captured with amateur

motion. This explains why the footage is always shaky in the opening scene and throughout the movie.

    - Close-up: Found footage movies often use close-up shots to carefully give an imitancy and realism

sense.

    - POV shots: POV (Point Of View) is often use to display the scene in the perspective of the character.

This gives a more realistic experience, and also to show the viewers the suspenseful and terrifying feeling

that the character is experiencing.

What Are The Connotations Of These Images?

Just like the images, the connotations differ with the movie. But they also share the same common:

    - These image are usually associated with darknessshadows and enclosed spaces. This connotes the

lurkiness of the darkness, and the unexpectations of what will happen next.

    - Another association is with the strange phenomena what exist in these images, such as supernatural

forceghostly figures, etc. These images can create a sense of unease and fear, as the viewer is forced to

confront the possibility that there are things in the world that cannot be explained by logic or reason.

Symbolic & Technical Codes Of The Genre

Symbolic codes:

    - Use of darkness and shadows: Darkness and shadows are frequently used in found footage films to

create a feeling of mystery and suspense. This is due to the viewer's inability to see what might be hiding

in the shadows, which can generate worry and anxiety.

    - Use of claustrophobic settings: Claustrophobic spaces, such as narrow halls, small chambers, and

gloomy woodlands, are frequently used in found footage movies. This may make the viewer feel trapped

and powerless, which may increase their level of fear.

    - Religious symbols are frequently used in found footage films, such as crosses, crucifixes, and holy

water. The prospect of evil and the supernatural is brought to the viewer's attention, which may arouse

feelings of dread and anxiety.

Technical codes:

    - Use of shaky camerawork: To express a sense of authenticity and immediacy, found footage films

often use shaky camerawork. This is due to the fact that handheld cameras are prone to shake more than

fixed cameras, which can lend the footage a more genuine and convincing vibe.

    - Use of close-ups: To convey a feeling of intimacy and authenticity, found footage films frequently

employ close-ups of faces and other items. This can also be utilised to draw attention to crucial features or

evoke a feeling of fear and anticipation.

    - Use of low light or night vision footage: To evoke a sense of gloom and mystery, found footage films

frequently include low light or night vision video. Since the audience cannot see, this can be used to evoke

tension and terror.

How Can Our Group’s Project Establish An Enigma?

    - Our group will do it by setting a myth in the opening scene of the movie. The enigma will be at a dark

alleyway and a abandoned garden.

+ What makes the sound behind the gate?

+ Why is the garden abandoned?

+ What happened to the garden?
